Can two separated people live in the same household?

-Two friends of mine have been married for eight years now. They are now separated. The woman is currently living in the same residence while looking for a new place to stay.



Is it legal to live in the same household with your ex if the household is divided into two separate living spaces/apartments? (EX: 653 Maple Dr. Apartment A, Apartment B)



Could both persons legally file their own taxes and one still receive SSI without legal trouble?



Please and thank you.Yes. You can live in the same household as your ex (I assume you're asking about the US). You can live in the same household as anyone you want. The inside of the house has no bearing on this, providing the house is habitable.



As they are separated rather than divorced, they can file their taxes separately.



SSI is a different matter. There are a lot of various rules in place depending on the reason for receiving SSI, the amount, etc -- some of the rules are based on income-to-outpay ratio, which may be affected if the two people are still actually sharing the same house (and thus, sharing bills). Your best bet will be to have more information on hand and just call SSI.Separated is NOT DIVORCED. They are STILL MARRIED, and completely covered by all the legalities that brings.



This is VERY dangerous, legally. If HE files bankruptcy, SHE can be held liable for the bills! HE gets rid of his debt, and the credit companies come after HER. IF SHE has a wreck, the other person can come afte HIM! Any debt that eitehr one incurs can be legally applied to the other person!

In the USA its legal to live anywhere and anyway that you want - married, separated, single... Apparently she is looking right? Why is this bothering you so much? Are you sure these are just "friends" and you're not wondering if they're still having sex? Chances are they're not, usually separations lead to less not more sexual contact regardless of living arrangement. If they're lying about the situation, well then that's a whole other issue... and yeah, they're probably sleeping together.
They even have sex to!!
