Will a counselor report if a couple in counseling is dealing with abuse?

-My husband and I are going to our first counseling appointment. My husband was abused as a child, and recently hurt me physically. This is very serious to me, and I feel like counseling and God are the only things that may help us. Anyway, for the counseling to work, I believe that both he and I must be very honest, and in being honest, he will need to share what happened to him as a child, and I will have to share what he did to me. Now, doing this, would the counselor be obligated to report this to authorities? I fully believe that my husband doesn't want to ever hurt me again, but, I do think he needs help dealing with the tragic childhood he had.If a counselor reports abuse, to adults, revealed in a professional setting, he could lose his license.

Better yet ask him upon meeting what happens with very serious information , even criminal.

Look, if you cannot be 100% honest with a counselor, there is no use going.

ASK.No he is a man now if he was still a child then yes they would. but he is man he can talk to someone about it all now without anyone getting arrested.
